Kenyan Coffees have very distinct flavours - most of us never forget the first cup we had. This beautiful coffee is our second Kenyan Espresso this year. It is coming from Embu District, located in the south-eastern slopes of Mount Kenya in the Eastern Province.
We selected Kangunu during our origin trip to Kenya in January. The cup profile has dominant flavours of blackcurrant. It is sirupy and rich - sweet and clean. Supported by wonderful grapefruit acidity this coffee is a showcase of Kenyan coffees.
Kangunu is named after the nearby stream and was established in 1966. It is part of the larger Kagaari South Farmer Cooperative Society. Most smallholder farmers have an average of 250 coffee trees each, the average farm size is 2 acres, of which 0.5 are planted with coffee. The factory is receiving assistance from the Coffee Management Services (CMS).The long term goal is to increase coffee production through farmer training and input access, and Good Agricultural Practice seminars are conducted year round.
We never blend any of our coffees and sell whole beans only to keep them as fresh as possible for you. All our coffees are fresh in season and of highest grading. We make it a point to pay a premium that enables our farmers to build a sustainable business and produce a high quality product in which they take great pride.
