This specific coffee is from Alemu, a private wetmill in the local community of Gebed in Kochere, Yirgacheffe. The producer is working in close relation with our partner Nordic Approach to improve qualities. The output of this wetmill is very limited and only the highest qualities are presented to us.

Mr Alemu took over the process station in 2004. His goal has always been to produce clean and transparent coffees that highlights the unique flavor attributes for the coffees in the region. They are consistently producing coffees that are approved as grade 1 coffees.

Yirgacheffe is known for it’s clean, floral and juicy coffees. With slow sun-drying this mill achieves very high qualities - flavours of fruits and berries are being very present in its cup profiles. There are mainly small family plots of both recently planted trees of improved varietals and traditional old varieties. Organic fertilizer is common, pruning less common.

Producer: Mr. Alemu. Zone: Gedeo, Yirgacheffe. Local municipality: Chelelectu.

Soil: Volcanic deposits, rich in minerals and nitrogen.

Process: They are collecting cherries in 7 different hillsides surrounding the wetmill. Cherries are hand sorted for unripes and overripes by the farmers before are approved. A 4 disc Hagbes pulper removes the skin and pulp. The coffees are then fermented under water for 24-36 hours, dependent on the weather conditions. It’s then graded in washing channels in to two grades based on density, and then soaked under clean water in tanks for 12-24 hours. Drying: Sun dried 10 – 15 days days on African drying beds on hessian cloths. Coffees are covered during midday and at night.

Our coffees are roasted rather light to create a fully developed but very clean taste.
