We are starting our Guatemalan season with two great coffees. El Eden is a very special microlot from La Reforma. The cup profile is clean and balanced. Beautiful notes of nectarine and toffee with a great, velvety mouthfeel - this coffee is rich and elegant at the same time.
La Reforma was established in 1904 by Manuel Perez and has remained in the family ever since. Alongside his mother and sisters, Leonardo works hard to improve the farm on a daily basis. He is constantly developing new methods to cultivate more productive and resistant plants more efficiently. With our partner Coffee Bird, La Reforma has taken an opportunity to showcase their coffee in a traceable and sustainable way rather than being traded as a generic Guatemalan coffee.
With altitudes over 2000 meters, Huehuetenango is the highest region of Guatemala. The hot winds from the Mexican mountains have historically protected the region from coffee diseases. Huehuetenango is one of the more remote parts of the country and accessibility by roads has been difficult. In the past many farmers used Ox or have personally moved coffee by their own feet. Huehuetenango enjoys easy access to many water sources enabling many producers to process their own coffee.
We are extremely happy to be able to present this beautiful coffee and support this farmer.
We never blend any of our coffees and sell whole beans only to keep them as fresh as possible for you. All our coffees are fresh in season and of highest grading. We make it a point to pay a premium that enables our farmers to build a sustainable business and produce a high quality product in which they take great pride.
Our coffees are roasted rather light to create a fully developed but very clean taste.
